Frequently Asked Questions
What is VoteForCause?
VoteForCause aims to expose visitors to different non-profit organizations. It is also a great place to find information about non-profits and meet other supporters. The votes allow supporters to bring their favorite non-profit organizations to the top of the list and, as a result give an organization more exposure.
How many times can I vote?
You may vote as many times as you would like. However, repeated votes will not count for 120 seconds after a vote has been cast. This is to prevent visitors from flooding the site with reloads and gives people a chance to talk with others and explore new organizations. Also note that there is no registration required.
Why are you checking if I'm human?
Every 5 votes from your internet connection will result in a check. It consists of a couple of words being presented in an image to you. Your job is to type the words in the image into the form. This is to prevent automated computer scripts from automatically voting through the day and night.
Should I register?
There is currently no separate VoteForCause registration. We have allowed users with a Facebook account to login. This is not required to vote. Logging in allows you to 'Favorite' an organization that will get saved to your VoteForCause dashboard. It is also required to make a pledge to an organization. All social and game elements with friends are exclusively available to those who are logged in. Further benefits will be added over time to those logged in.
How do I support VoteForCause?
Tell your friends! Vote often.
What are the requirements for organizations to be listed?
The only requirement is that an organization be registered as a non-profit with the IRS. While I understand that not all non-profits are run well or necessarily do a good job of utilizing their resources, I leave it up to the voters to research which causes they would like to support. To help with this, I have linked to the BBB and Charity Navigator reports of organizations when available.
